Una gru attraversa il sole, e il pino sempreverde completa l'associazione di questa specie aviana con longevità. L'immagine semplice e audace può essere vista come una rappresentazione abbreviata del Monte Hōrai, isola mitica degli immortali, destinata ad essere esposta all'inizio del calendario lunare. Suzuki Kiitsu, allievo di Sakai Hōitsu (1761–1828), garantiva la continuità dell'arte di Rinpa in tempi moderni, animando un genere che altrimenti sarebbe diventato eccessivamente formulatico e statico.
