Ilustrado Leyendas de Ishiyamadera representa treinta y tres historias separadas sobre los poderes milagrosos del icono principal del templo, el Nyoirin Kannon, popular especialmente entre los peregrinos femeninos por su joya llena de deseos y capacidad para ayudar en la concepción y el parto seguro. Autor y autoprofesado Genji fanático Takasue no Musume hizo el viaje allí en 1045, que se representa aquí, y lo grabó en su memoria, El diario Sarashina (ca. 1060).
