Cette tasse à vin a un design rare avec un jeu de société ‘sugoroku (le backgammon japonais). Le design en spirale est réalisé en hira maki-e (décoration en métal asphalté) sur la surface vermilion laquée. Il représente des lieux célèbres à Edo (moderne Tokyo) depuis le début du pont Nihonbashi jusqu'à l'achèvement de la Porte Ote-mon du château d'Edo. Le créateur, Kōryusai est considéré comme un artiste maki-e du XIXe siècle, mais les détails de sa carrière sont inconnus.
