Una bellezza elegante vestita di nero si è precipitata nella banchina ricoperta di neve, dove una barca è in attesa, forse con il suo amante sotto il suo tetto. La neve è ovunque – sul lato opposto del fiume, dove un torii (portato a un santuario shintoista) è dimly visibile; sulle case; sulla barca; e sulla riva dove sta. Rompere il contrasto duro di nero contro il bianco sono i rossi brillanti del suo undersash, il suo sottobosco, e un coagulo, che sono tutti delicatamente delineati in inchiostro d'oro. Hokuba, che spesso firmò il suo nome Teisei Hokuba, fu uno degli allievi di maggior successo del grande maestro Hokusai. Un artista prolifico, quasi fino al calibro del suo insegnante, Hokuba produsse molti dipinti e stampe.
