Gedrucktes Porträt von Athanasius Kircher in der Eröffnung seines Mundus Subterraneus platziert. Der Jesuit Athanasius Kircher reiste in den 1630er Jahren ins Mittelmeer, erlebte ein Erdbeben und beobachtete Stromboli und Etna. Er erforschte den Krater von Vesuvius und seine Erfahrungen gefüttert in sein großes Buch der Naturphilosophie: Mundus Subterraneus veröffentlichte erstmals 1665.
