Theobald Schorn venne ad Ahrenshoop nel 1890. Extensivi viaggi avevano precedentemente preso il diploma dell'Accademia d'Arte di Monaco attraverso i paesi del Vicino e dell'Estremo Oriente fino al Tibet. L'interesse degli artisti europei in questi mondi sconosciuti è stato innescato in misura non ridotta dagli scavi archeologici del XIX secolo in Egitto e nel Vicino Oriente.
