Bacco, dio del vino, emerge con i suoi seguaci dal paesaggio a destra. Innamorato di Arianna a vista, salta dal suo carro, disegnato da due ghepardi, verso di lei. Arianna era stata abbandonata sull'isola greca di Naxos da Theseus, la cui nave è mostrata in lontananza. L'immagine mostra la sua paura iniziale di Bacco, ma l'ha cresciuta in cielo e l'ha trasformata in una costellazione, rappresentata dalle stelle sopra la testa.
