Die Komposition des Bildes, die sich auf eine Landschaft öffnet, erinnert an eine Art Porträt, das von Titian und seiner Werkstatt häufig verwendet wird. Die Position der Madonna, deren unterer Körper vor allem in der Mitte des Bildes ist und deren Oberkörper in die linke Hälfte gedreht wird, ist ein weiteres Beispiel für Titians ungewöhnliches Talent für die Komposition - er fand immer neue Wege der Entwicklung von etablierten Bildformeln. Die große schwere Figur in diesem Bild kann mit den Skulpturen von Sansovino und Michelangelo verglichen werden.
