Dies ist Titians einzige bekannte überlebende Zeichnung für jedes seiner gemalten Porträts. Eine Studie vor allem des Rüstungsanzuges und der Pose zu erfassen, basiert sie eindeutig auf einem Modell anstatt auf dem Herzog selbst, dem der Kopf wenig Ähnlichkeit trägt. Die Zeichnung bestätigt also, was man auf jeden Fall vermutet hat: dass Titians Porträts nicht in Gegenwart seiner Sitten hingerichtet wurden, von denen die meisten zu groß oder zu beschäftigt waren, um viel Zeit für den Maler zu posieren.
