Папа Николай IV заказал мозаичное украшение апсиды Санта-Мария-Маджиоре, заменив мозаику пятого века, но не полностью изменив оригинальную тему и сохранив бюст Спасителя, который, как считается, чудесным образом появился во время посвящения базилики.
