Kunichika ha visitato kabuki spogliatoi ed è stato amichevole con gli attori su base quotidiana. Può essere specificamente dovuto al fatto che egli aveva osservato attori nelle spogliatoi ogni giorno che Kunichika ha pubblicato il Mitate di cinque parti: Attori della Sera, Ritornando alla Stanza del Vestito (『見山屋国屋, ’Mitate gakuya modori haiyū yūbae’) nel 1865, un lavoro di cui si trova nella collezione nazionale lettone di arte (ĀMM Gr-9357). Un famoso giovane attore Kawarazaki Gonjūrō I (il successivo Ichikawa Danjūrō IX) è interpretato, in coppia con un attore Nakamura Ganpachi che gioca un ruolo di supporto nella performance che è raffigurato come se fosse un okuri (‘accompanist’) – un lavoratore teatrale i cui doveri sono di attendere e accompagnare gli attori. Così la creazione di una serie di ritratti con attori famosi e attori di supporto insieme ha richiesto un tocco per notare le relazioni inter-umani e l'equilibrio tra gli attori ritratti.
