The Pietá, commonly found in sculptures, is an important representation in Marian art where the Virgin Mary is shown cradling her dead son in her arms after it was brought down from the cross. In this depiction of the Pieta made of ivory, the Virgin Mary is shown in the usual pose holding the lifeless body of her dead son. She is shown wearing a large gilt-edged cloak over her robe. She is also shown wearing a gold crown. the loincloth that Christ wears is also edged in gilt. This image stands on a wooden pedestal.
