Altar frontals were used to adorn the front of altars. They were made of various materials, including rich or embroidered fabrics in the same colour as the vestments of the day. This example is in cream-coloured silk with oriental-style embroidered polychrome silk floral designs and coils that cover the whole piece, including the narrow border.
