Obwohl er in eine Familie von relativ hochrangigen Krieger-Retainern geboren wurde, aus einem jungen Alter, Uragami Gyokudō mehr Interesse an Literatur, Malerei und Musik. Schließlich trat er seine Position bei neunundvierzig und reiste weit für den Rest seines Lebens. In dieser späten Arbeit, die in kurzen, sorgfältigen Hüben mit einer trockenen Bürste ausgeführt wird, malt Gyokudō ein abgelegenes Bergdorf, das – vielleicht bei weitem rechts sichtbar – nach dem Regen in Nebel umhüllt ist.
