Anche se è nato in una famiglia di relativamente alto rango guerrieri-reservatori, da giovane età, Uragami Gyokudō ha espresso più interesse per la letteratura, la pittura e la musica. Alla fine si dimise dalla sua posizione a quarantanove e viaggiò ampiamente per il resto della sua vita. In questo lavoro tardivo eseguito in brevi e meticolosi colpi con una spazzola asciutta, Gyokudō dipinge un villaggio di montagna appartato, ben visibile a destra, ancora avvolto in nebbia dopo la pioggia.
