La serie Eight Views of the Environs of Edo nasce da una stampa di commissione privata per il Taishido Poetry Club, da un noto editore Sanoya Kihei. Il club voleva Utagawa Hiroshige per creare una serie impressionante che mettesse in evidenza la loro poesia, che si basava su luoghi popolari in Edo. Il club di poesia commissionò la serie per illustrare le loro poesie basate su luoghi famosi intorno a Edo. Le stampe della prima edizione di questa serie includono tre o quattro versi di poesia in cima, mentre le impressioni tardive presentano solo un solo versetto. Questa stampa raffigura una donna in abito elaborato che trasporta un grande ombrello. Sullo sfondo, lo spettatore può vedere la neve serale sui tetti e sull'acqua, e la colorazione vivida dell'acqua e dell'abbigliamento porta un senso di energia notturna sulla scena.
