El rappado représente a los samuraáis Kiso Yoshinaka y su esposa Tomoe Gozen. Kiso Yoshinaka (1154-1184), o Señor Kiso, fue un général de finales del período Heian de la historia de Japón. Miembro del clan Minamoto, participant à la Guerra Genpei, entre los clanes Minamoto y los Taira. Tomoe Gozen (1157–1184) fue una de las pocas guerreras samurái en la Historia de Japón, durant el período de las Guerras Gemmei (1180–1185). Según El cantar de Heike:
