Valentín Carderera beschrieb dieses Porträt wie folgt: „Maria Cristina von Bourbon, Ehefrau von Ferdinand VII. Sie steht und ist halb lebensgroß. Sie hat ihre Haare im „Bird of Paradise“-Stil, ein sehr breites Kopfband und Kamm mit großen Diamanten bedeckt, sowie die drei fallen Ohrringe gehen zusammen mit der herrlichen Schmetterling Halskette (...). Die Königin trägt ein weißes und goldfarbenes Chiffonkleid mit sehr offener Spitze mit Goldkarnationen und Rosen. Sie hält einen Fan in ihrer rechten Hand. Ihr Mantel ist rot und mit Gold bestickt. (...)“. Maria Cristina von Bourbon war das vierte Konsortium von König Ferdinand VII, dem sie zwei Töchter gab, als Älteste die zukünftige Königin Isabella II, geboren am 10. Oktober 1830. Als der König starb, war Isabella nur drei Jahre alt und María Cristina musste dann die Regeneration von 1833 bis zum Aufstand von Baldomero Espartero im Jahre 1840 annehmen.
