Willem van de Velde seguì le orme del padre e si specializzò nella pittura navale. Qui, dà un'impressione di un giorno sull'acqua in calma quasi morta. Sulla destra, l'equipaggio di un tre-master sta infilando l'intestazione, mentre un passeggero è in fila a terra. Le attività vengono osservate dallo yacht in primo piano. La poppa della nave è riccamente decorata e porta un leone rosso olandese e lo stemma di Amsterdam.
