Il Vigneto Rosso è stato esposto per la prima volta alla mostra annuale di Les XX, 1890 a Bruxelles, e venduto per 400 franchi (pari a circa $1,000-1,050 oggi) ad Anna Boch, un pittore impressionista, membro di Les XX e collezionista d'arte dal Belgio; Anna era la sorella di Eugène Boch, un altro pittore impressionista e un amico di Van Gogh, troppo, che aveva dipinto il ritratto di Arilereux (LeCome il Night Café, è stato acquistato dal famoso collezionista russo Sergei Shchukin, è stato poi nazionalizzato dai bolscevichi con il resto della sua collezione, che alla fine passò al Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts di Mosca.
