Size: 119 x 46 cm

Museum: Sforza Castle (Milan, Italy)

Technique: Tempera On Panel

The figure of the saint, whose name can be read in his halo, comes from a dismantled polyptych whose original location is still unknown. As this saint was particularly venerated in Pavia, the panel is thought to come from this town, where Vincenzo Foppa had been living since at least 1456. The work’s dating is still highly uncertain. The figure is shown against a luminous golden background: the white tunic is touched by a warm light, which darkens the shadows on the faces and on the depths of the folds.
