Artist: Walter Rudolf Leistikow
Technique: Oil On Canvas
After secessions were established in Munich, Vienna and Düsseldorf, in 1898 the Berlin Secession was founded. The painter Walter Leistikow played an important role in that matter. As an excellent networker, he knew how to bring together fellow artists to form a new institution that organised its own exhibitions. Every artistic tendency was supposed to have its place and merely the quality of the painting was essential. A new exhibition building was erected in barely two months in the district Charlottenburg. The Berlin Secession also displayed French impressionist painters. Soon, the exhibitions became the most important artistic events of the capital.
