Con questo lavoro, è possibile vedere Stevens approccio all'astrazione. Essenzialmente, dissolve il colore e forma in blocchi fortemente modellati che danno un'unità visiva a tutto il lavoro, isolando i campi di colore individuali... molto nel modo di Arshile Gorky e altri artisti astratti che lavorano a New York negli anni '40. La tavolozza qui è molto sottile e differisce notevolmente dall'opera naturalistica eseguita nello stesso periodo.
