Schenck dipinse questa precisa rappresentazione del nuovo deposito della Third Avenue Railroad Company mentre serviva come sovrintendente della società (1856-64). Completato nel 1857 (e distrutto solo quattro anni dopo dal fuoco), l'edificio di mattoni bello è stato situato su Third Avenue tra la 65a e la 66a Strada a New York City. Oltre a evidenziare la popolarità contemporanea del tram di strada trainato da cavalli, Schenck includeva anche un pallone ad aria calda nel cielo, identificato in minuscole lettere come l'Atlantico. I proprietari del pallone, John Wise e John LaMountain, speravano di volare attraverso l’Oceano Atlantico per avviare una forma di trasporto completamente nuova, ma non riuscirono mai.
