Среди работ с японскими темами были три эпизода из «Сказка о Дженджи». Иваса Матабэй, без сомнения, решил изобразить эти три выдуманные сцены из сказки ’ обширная иконография, потому что они позволили ему включить измерение психологической наводчивости, которое стало торговой маркой его отличительного стиля живописи.
