Le nature morte di Van Aelst sono diverse da quelle dei suoi predecessori. Piuttosto che dipingere mazzi simmetrici, li ha disposti lungo una linea diagonale. Inoltre, non li ha illuminati uniformemente, optando invece per forti contrasti di luce e buio. Questo conferisce tensione e dinamismo ai suoi mazzi. Questo dipinto di fiore profuso è stato progettato come un pezzo d'esposizione. I fiori stanno in un costoso vaso d'argento, e un orologio d'oro si trova accanto a loro. Van Aelst, che aveva vissuto in Italia, firmò l'opera con il suo nome italiano.
