The German Impressionist Lesser Ury, who exhibited in 1915 with the Berlin Secession, was one of the few Jewish artists working in Germany in the late nineteenth century. Although he sometimes explored Jewish themes, he excelled at cityscapes - street, park, and cafe scenes - that expressed the loneliness and alienation of the modern urban dweller.
