Tamanho: 10 x 61 cm

museu: Canberra Museum and Gallery (Canberra, Australia)

Técnica: Glass

Born in Canberra, Kirstie Rea studied in the Glass Workshop at the ANU School of Art where she obtained her undergraduate degree. Since graduation she has established herself as a significant figure in Australian and international glass art with an important reputation for her innovative technique and sculptural approach to her chosen medium. Perhaps best known as one of the pioneers of the roll-up technique she has taught, and exhibited in Australia and overseas including solo exhibitions in the USA and Australia. Her advocacy for the development and success of Australian glass in the international arena has become a hallmark of her professional carer. Her work has been included in such prestigious exhibitions as COLLECT (Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 2006), Transformations: the language of craft (National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, 2005) and the San Francisco International Art Exposition (2005). The elegant minimalism of Myth or memory reveals the artist’s connection with her environment and records her observations of the Australian landscape in a pure and direct way. The simple form intimates associations with farming equipment whilst the subtly worked surfaces reflect the passage of time and the ability of the landscape to regenerate despite the intrusions of man. Memory and place are beautifully evoked.
