Willard Doremus designed this mailbox with a fluted pedestal and patented it in 1894. The Reading Stove Works of Reading, Pennsylvania, manufactured this particular mailbox, but the Corbin Lock Company of New Britain, Connecticut, also produced Doremus boxes. The Doremus mailbox came in three different sizes: the no. 1 box (750 cubic inches), the no. 2 (1,180 cubic inches), and the no. 3 (2,360 cubic inches). This is an example of the no. 3 model.Museum ID: 1989.0566.1
