The picture by Mieczysław Wiśniewski is a square shape composition of a homogeneous, dark-blue colour with the surface characterised by the relief convexities. These distortions on the flat surface of the canvas have a geometrical nature; in the central part they take the form of the letter X deprived of one of its arms, on the peripheries of the frame they appear in the shape of two trapezoids in a perpendicular relationship. The technique of the work realisation, typical for the works from the Systems series emerging since the 70s, is based on the authorial design of the painting loom, which is enriched with additional, cross boards, pushing the canvas out and forming a particular shape. The resulting pictures, unique in their ascetic, geometrical formula, base their impact on the occurrence of the third dimension. The painting surface properties are brought forth by the light, indicating the shiny points and the matte areas, coming out of the shadows and plunging into it. [F. Pręgowski]
