Sketch completed by David Wilkie for the final work of 1828, which is now in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle and is identical to the sketch. It reproduces an episode from the Sieges of Zaragoza. The protagonist is one of the most iconic heroines in the fight, Agustina de Aragón, who is depicted at the moment when the cannon began to fire. The scene features an urban landscape from the city of Zaragoza, showing it in ruins after the battle.
