В 1837 году Балтиморский художник Альфред Джейкоб Миллер отправился на границу с американской меховой компанией. По пути он сделал много эскизов коренных американцев, сосредоточившись, в частности, на их отношениях с меховой торговлей. Миллер прокомментировал конфликт между трейдерами и Shoshonee:
