Родился в Делфте, Миджтенсе или Майтенсе, поселился в Лондоне к 1618 году. Он стал придворным художником Джеймса I в 1621 году, а также занимал титул под Карлом I (1600-1649), до 1634 года, к тому времени Энтони ван Дайк был восстановлен в Англии. Это первичная, 1629 версия стандартного полнометражного королевского портретного типа, с тонкой, детальной картиной драпировки и небольшими корректировками различных контуров, сделанных художником.
