Человек ’ одиночество и трансиенция природы, темы, четко изложенные в этой картине, находят прямые параллели в произведениях художника Каспара Дэвида Фридриха и композитора Франца Шуберта, в частности его песенный цикл Die Winterreise, или Winter Journey (1827).
