Очень большая церковь Санта Мария Новелла была первой важной и независимой церковью в подлинно итальянском стиле. Его строительство началось примерно в 1246 году для Доминиканского ордена. Точные даты различных частей церкви все еще спорны, но, конечно, потребовалось очень много времени, чтобы построить его.
