В германских землях в XVIII веке, и во Фландрии семнадцатым, пульп стал знаковым средством для выражения истины веры в фигурах, чей стиль был заимствован из красноречия проповедника. Действительно, пульп был назван «председателем де vérité». Во Франции проповедь культивировалась как литературный жанр.
