Брэдфорд вырос в Нью-Бедфорде, штат Массачусетс, и обратился к искусству в средней жизни, изучая под голландским морским художником Альбертом Ван Беэстом. Брэдфорд выставлялся в Boston Athenaeum, Национальной академии и Королевской академии. Биллингс приобрел эту картину в 1881 году во время посещения Брэдфорда.
