The engraving shows the personification of astronomy in an antique, draped dress and a decorative breastplate. It is depicted as a winged woman sitting on a plinth and leaning against a celestial globe with images of constellations. He points to the sky with his left hand. Her head is decorated with stars, on her chest she has the symbols of the Sun and the Moon. To her right is an eagle. At the feet of the figure there are books and measuring instruments, e.g. sundial and compass. On the left side, the composition is closed by a tree trunk, in the distance a castle, and on the right side there are the ruins of a mausoleum with a statue of a lying Aquarius.
