In Catalonia, seascapes and other paintings with maritime themes did not become established until the 19th century, when various well-known painters started including them in their repertoire, making them an accepted genre. These are generally works that combine artistic and documentary values. This painting shows one of the painters’ favourite themes: a fishing boat loaded with baskets, thus adding the human factor to the landscape.
