From the Artist: When the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, I was stranded in Chennai, India, with no way to return home due to travel restrictions and cancelled airline flights. To relieve my anxiety and frustration, I became hooked on online videos demonstrating the art of Chinese Brush Painting, which I had always been attracted to, particularly at the Met and other East Asian galleries, but had never attempted myself. When I was finally able to return to the US in June 2020, I promptly ordered some paints and supplies and tried my hand at Chinese Brush Painting. So far, I have completed about a dozen paintings and I find it helps to relieve my anxiety about leaving my 95-year-old mother and loved ones in India, as well as giving me a sense of purpose and fulfillment during these difficult times. Painting nature - animals, plants and flowers gives me the greatest satisfaction.Soon I had the idea of using these paintings on note cards that I sent to friends and family, as a more personal way to keep in touch with them than email or Whatsapp messages. To my surprise, several people inquired about buying these note cards for their own use. So, this pandemic hobby may turn out to be a small business opportunity for me!
