This knee-skimming evening gown of imprinted gold lamé is at the same time simple and sumptuous. Paul Poiret (1879–1944) displays the beauty of the luxurious fabric with an ingeniously cut design and has processed the entire sheet of over-wide lamé straight, without a right side seam. A narrow sheet was inserted under the arm on the left and it reaches up to the hip. Here, two slanting triangles of fabric offer the necessary width. Ribbons of braided lamé serve as the straps and delicate gold lace supplements these with short sleeves. The oversized fleshy blossoms in clearly delineated colours are reminiscent of the fabric designs of “Martine”, the interior decoration firm grounded by Paul Poiret in 1911.
