Ugo Zannoni (1836-1919), after a period of apprenticeship in the atelier of Grazioso Spazzi was accepted at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice as a pupil of Luigi Ferrari and, finally, at the Accademia di Brera under Pietro Bernasconi, a pupil of Vincenzo Vela. Among his most important works created in Verona is the sculpture dedicated to Dante Alighieri, presented here in its reduced bronze version and displayed in Piazza dei Signori (also known as Piazza Dante) in its imposing marble rendition.
