In weiter, sanft gewellter Landschaft sitzt Venus an einem Ufer und lässt sich von drei Frauen bedienen und schmücken. Dabei umfängt sie leicht ihren umtriebigen Sohn Amor, der mit seinem Pfeil auf eine Wassernymphe vor sich zielt. Maritime Wesen und Putten im Vordergrund und ausgelassen tanzende Satyrn und Nymphen im Mittelgrund des Bildes geben diesem eine spielerisch heitere Atmosphäre. Bon Boullogne (1649-1717) komponierte in diesem signierten Werk verschiedene Figuran, die er immer wieder verwendete, zu einem armonischen Ganzen, in dem alles um die Göttin der Schönheit und der Liebe kreist. König Friedrich II. von Preußen (1712-1786) kaufte das Gemälde 1755 in Paris aus der Sammlung des Händlers Louis Pasquier und ließ es in das Kabinett seiner 1764 eingerichteten Bildergalerie hängen.
