Das Aufwachsen von Lazarus, um 1609, im Museo Regionale, Messina, ist ein Gemälde des italienischen Künstlers Caravaggio (1571-1610). Im August 1608 floh Caravaggio aus Malta, wo er für ein unbekanntes Verbrechen inhaftiert worden war, und nahm Zuflucht in Sizilien mit seinem Freund, dem Künstler Mario Minniti. Durch Minnitis Fürsprache erwarb er eine Reihe wichtiger Konzessionen, darunter dies für die Kirche des Padri Crociferi in Messina, wo es am 10. Juni 1609 von dem reichen Genua-Händler Giovanni Battista de' Lazzari präsentiert wurde. Die Gebühr war tausend Scudi, mehr als doppelt jeder Caravaggio hatte zuvor empfangen.
