Saint Hubert, aristocrate du sixième siècle, est le patron des chasseurs. La légende dit qu'il s'est converti à une vie de piété pendant la chasse, quand un crucifix lui est soudainement apparu entre les cornes d'un cerf. Le groupe exquis en biscuit a été modelé par Carlo Camillo Tamietti sur le retable peint par Vittorio Amedeo Rapous pour la chapelle du pavillon royal de chasse de Stupinigi en 1768. Tamietti était le mannequin talentueux de l'usine Vinovo, créée en 1775 par Giovanni Vittorio Brodel, qui a formé l'année suivante un partenariat avec Pierre-Antoine Hannong, de la célèbre famille des céramistes de Strasbourg. Il est signé sur la base: -Tamiat. Inve(nit): et fecit. 1778.
