Questo doppio ritratto è tra i più tecnicamente brillante di Coypel, che era un membro della Royal Academy francese e pittore ufficiale di re Luigi XV. Ha usato il controllo abbagliante e incerto di una varietà di media (principalmente pastello, ma anche gesso e acquerello) per catturare l'ampia gamma di texture, tra cui pizzo e velluto.
