La composition de cette image semble avoir été inspirée d'une sculpture en bas relief, probablement par Donatello ou Michelangelo (Granacci avait été un autre élève avec Michelangelo dans l'atelier de Ghirlandaio). Cependant, Granacci a rendu la composition plus picturale en plaçant les figures dans une pièce lumineuse. Une autre version de l'image de Granacci existe et la même composition a été traitée par Bacchiacca (Linsky Collection, The Met). La photo actuelle date d'environ 1520.
