Embradé par un compagnon souriant, la figure centrale se livre au nouveau vice fêlé du tabac, une importation récente du Nouveau Monde qui a grandement troublé les moralistes hollandais. La brosse lâche sur ce panneau octogonal, sa forme originale, capte l'agitation d'une taverne intérieure.
