Diese gut aussehende Arbeit ist eine der am besten gelungenen Bemühungen von Corot, um Raphaels High Renaissance-Stil zu nähern. Seine Pose folgt dem Porträt von Bindo Altoviti (National Gallery of Art, Washington), glaubte an Corots Tag, um Raphaels Selbstporträt zu sein, aber Corot kam zu dieser Komposition inkrementell. X-Radiographen zeigen einen früheren Zustand, in dem das Modell den Cello spielt: die linke Hand hielt den Hals des Instruments und die rechte Hand, leicht angehoben, hielt den Bogen. Corot machte mehrere Anpassungen an diese Accessoires, bevor sie zusammen malen, die rechte Hand des Modells auf ihren Schoß fallen und legte eine Rose oder Rosa in ihre linke Hand.
