Ein Halbfigurenporträt: Bei dem Abgebildeten handelt es sich um den Gründungsdirektor des Bayerischen Gewerbemuseums Dr. Carl von Stegmann. 1869 kam er in die Position des Direktors. Fast 20 Jahre später - 1888 - verließ er das Bayerische Gewerbemuseum, allerdings im Unfrieden. Das Porträt selbst wurde von Karl Jäger gemalt. Dieser war ein Radierer, Genre-, Historien- und Bildnismaler. Er lehrte Zeichnen an der Kunstgewerbeschule Nürnberg nach Akt und Antike. Das Porträt wurde auf Leinwand gemalt und ist umrahmt von getreppten Profilleisten, dazwischen kunstvoll rings umlaufend, zwei Reihen sich überlappender Akanthus-Blätter.
